A design is a construction or activity specification or plan, or the result of that plan in the form of a prototype, finished product, or process. “To design” as a verb expresses the process of developing such a design. In some cases, the direct construction of an object without an explicit prior plan (such as in craftwork and some engineering, coding, and graphic design) is also considered[by whom?] to be a design activity. The same word is also used for the broad discipline of design creation, which spans engineering and applied art.[citation needed] Major examples of design include architectural blueprints, engineering drawings, business processes, circuit diagrams, and sewing patterns.

The person or organization who produces a design is a “designer”, which is also a term used for people who work professionally in one of the various design areas – usually specifying which area is being dealt with (such as a textile designer, fashion designer, product designer, concept designer, web designer (website designer) or interior designer).
